Debunking the Ingrown Hair Mystery

Everyone loves a good mystery, right? Sure, but not when it comes to our vaginas. I admit that this lady feature is both astounding and mysterious. It gives us both pleasure and grief and can be the topic of many conversations. As with any great relic, it also comes with many curiosities. Why we even have pubic hair in this day and age is a solid mystery for one. A lot of us spend our money and time just trying to get rid of it like it’s some invasive weed taking over our beautiful garden. To be fair, it kind of is.

Whatever your choice is when it comes to grooming your downstairs mix-up - sugaring, waxing, shaving, depilatories, lasering, trimming, or what I call “The Freedom of 1970” (doing nothing) - you have likely run into the mystery of ingrown hairs.

There are different types of ingrown hairs. Hair can look like a splinter under the skin, travelling perpendicular under the top layer of skin, just annoyingly out of reach. It can look like a red, angry pustule or bump or it can look like a big blackhead. They can be sore or not painful at all. Would you expect anything else? We’re women. Our bodies are complicated and never status-quo. Where there’s hair growth, there’s the possibility of ingrown hairs. Like your very own field of dreams, if you groom it, they will come.

Without getting into the science of the epidermis and all that boring science crap, I’ll just say the skin needs to be free of dead skin cells on the surface and adequately hydrated in order to be in perfect condition to promote a healthy growth phase for your pubic hair.

If you experience slight to moderate ingrown hair issues fairly consistently, you need to do the following things:

EXFOLIATE & MOISTURIZE

You’ll need three things:

  1. A physical exfoliator like the Merben dry brushes or FUR wash cloths to use daily.

  2. An exfoliating scrub such as FUR silk scrub, Bush Balm’s Sweet Escape body polish or Bush Balm’s Nude body polish to use 2-3x per week.

  3. An ingrown hair treatment hydrating lotion such as FUR Oil, FUR Ingrown Concentrate, PFB Vanish, or Alexandria Phenomenal.

If you experience moderate to stubborn ingrown hair issues consistently, you need to ramp it up and do the following things:

EXFOLIATE & MOISTURIZE

You’ll need three things:

  1. A physical exfoliator like the Merben dry brushes or FUR wash cloths to use daily.

  2. An exfoliating scrub such as FUR silk scrub, Bush Balm’s Sweet Escape body polish or Bush Balm’s Nude body polish to use 2-3x a week.

  3. An ingrown hair treatment called PFB Vanish to use daily after showering. This is not an all-natural product but boy does it work!

  4. A moisturizer to use at bedtime such as Alexandria's Hydrating Lotion or Sugarsmac's Don't Scratch Your Snatch. These lotions are like your no-frills best friend. They have no scent and they’re built to moisturize without all the extra junk.

Your job now is to commit to a small routine that can have big results. A healthy vagina is a happy vagina, and a happy vagina means a happy YOU!

Yours truly,

Lisa
