The 1970 Muff

“Mom! You didn't tell me about the importance of exfoliating and moisturizing my bikini area! Why not?”

In all likelihood, here’s why.

The 70s were full of horrible design choices – from orange and brown wallpaper, an unholy amount of macrame, bellbottom jeans, pea green furniture, and… uh… shag carpeting. Yes, your parents may have spent their Saturday mornings watching cartoons on an obnoxiously thick shag rug in their living room, but I’m talking about the other shag carpeting. Ya dig?

I’ll stop beating around the bush. The 70s were the reign of the beaver. The bush. Muffs (yes, I said it). Fur. Lady hair. You probably cringed when you read those but the fact is, any magazine worth hiding under a mattress in 1975 was bushier than any haunted forest. Thankfully for us, unruly pubes and Jello molds stayed in the era of disco.

Your mom never knew to exfoliate and moisturize because all that hair masked what was lurking underneath. Bumps, red marks, and ingrown hairs were buried under the rug, much like family secrets. With no shaving, waxing, sugaring, or lasers to harsh its mellow, the hair growth cycle was au naturel, meaning the hair would just hang out in its telogen (resting) phase.

Nowadays flaunting a full bush is about as mainstream as having a beehive hairstyle – aka, it's not. Achieving hairlessness by shaving, waxing, sugaring, lasering - you name it – means our hair is consistently in regrowth cycles which is why we end up with all of these complications.

To combat most, if not all of these issues, a simple care routine will help. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate, and don’t forget to moisturize. There are glorious products in our store like BUSHBALM sweet escape sugar scrubMERBEN dry brushes (for the best exfoliation), and FUR oil for moisturizing.

We have to care for our lady bits in an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT way than mom did. Peace out 1976, it’s been rad the1985, but it’s time to say hello to modern muff problems.

Love,
Lisa
